History
Incorporated in 1990, Broward Navy Days originally was formed under the leadership of Captain Jean Fitzgerald, USN (Ret.), to host an annual Fleet Week Celebration in Port Everglades. Today, the members of the organization officially greet every Navy & Coast Guard ship calling at our Port and, in addition, support the activities of the Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale and the Commands based there, including the USCGC GANNET (WPB 87334) and the CG AIDS TO NAVIGATION Team. The U. S. SOUTHERN COMAND and the units of the U. S. COAST GUARD District 7 also participate in many BND sponsored activities.
In 2001, Broward Navy Days merged the Fleet Week Celebration with the McDonald’s Air & Sea Show and benefited from the professional management of the MDM Group, Ltd. & Pro-Series, Inc. for seven years. The Fleet Week Celebration was known as Fleet Week USA. In 2008, it returned to being Fleet Week Port Everglades, run by Broward Navy Days, Inc.
The all-volunteer Broward Navy Days organization has gained a highly respected reputation for being a good friend of the “White Hats” with their award recognition of the Sailors of the Year, and sponsorship of many All Hands Parties.
